Lawrence may become first city in Kansas to ban drones

The Kansans for Responsible Drone Use activist group have put together a coalition of political groups and civil rights organizations including the Douglas County Libertarians, the Douglas County Republican Party, the Lawrence Coalition for Peace and Justice, MadreLawrence, and Kansas University’s Young Americans for Liberty to ask the city of Lawrence to pass an anti-drone ordinance. Lawrence’s Mayor Mike Dever stated that city doesn’t have any plans for using drones in the near future, but he would be willing to consider an ordinance. Charlottesville, Va. was the first city in the United States to adopt a drone ban. The other U.S. cities that have drone bans are Seattle, Evanston, Ill., Iowa City, Iowa, and St. Bonifacius, Minn.
